The Missionaries of AfricaVocations Web SiteThe M.Afr. Community at Edenglen, Johannesburg, South AfricaIs it true to say that White Fathers are hospitable? At least it must be true at Edenglen, Johannesburg in South Africa. They have regular and many visitors to whom they give board and lodging. Having three visitors’ room and a caravan they can accommodate most visitors. The community is made of two members: Bro René Garand and Fr Ray Fortin. Bro Garand is Provincial Treasurer. He visits the missions of South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique every year and makes regular reports to Rome. Fr Ray does all kinds of ministry on demand. It is during these activities that he promotes W.Fr. vocations. As the White Fathers are going to open a new mission at Diepsloot, Ray promotes the project and collects funds to help realise that undertaking. He does it mainly through correspondence with Canadian benefactors. Although only two in the community, the community spirit is quite visible and friendly for them both and for visitors. Some prayers are done in common and meals are taken together. More often than not they are together in the house and often communicate. There seems to be no secrets between them. The apostolate apart from the treasurer is informal even though Ray is rather busy with varied ministry. Our Edenglen house is well situated only 12 minutes drive to the airport where we go very often to take visitors or confreres going through the airport. Our address is:
